Broker compensation disclosure

How Voltcheckrgets paid.

Transparency on how we get paid is required by the regulator and, frankly, just the right thing to do. Here is everything you need to know, in plain language.

Regulatory status

Voltcheckr is a broker, not a supplier.

Voltcheckr operates under PUCT Broker License #49779. That means we are not a Retail Electric Provider (REP). Our job is to shop the market on your behalf and connect you with the supplier offering the best rate for your usage profile. The electricity contract is between you and the supplier you select, not between you and Voltcheckr.

How we get paid

The supplier pays us, not you.

When you accept a quote through Voltcheckr, the supplier you choose pays us a commission for every kWh you consume over the contract term. That commission is already built into the rate we quote you. We do not charge you a shopping fee, a monthly fee, or anything else for using Voltcheckr.

What this means for you

The commission is inside the rate, not on top of it.

If you went directly to the same supplier without Voltcheckr, you would get the same rate, or more likely a worse one, since you would not be benchmarking against the rest of the market. The commission we earn is part of the customer-acquisition cost the supplier already pays. Your job is to pick the supplier you want to sign with. Ours is to make sure you see the competitive options.

Your rights

How to file a complaint.

As a Texas commercial customer, you have the right to file complaints about electricity brokers with the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT). Their consumer hotline is 1-888-782-8477. We recommend contacting us first; most issues resolve quickly over email or a phone call.

Plain summary

  • We are a PUCT-licensed broker, not a supplier.
  • The supplier pays us a commission per contract.
  • The commission is built into the rate you are quoted.
  • You pay us nothing.
  • If you have a complaint, call us first; then PUCT at 1-888-782-8477 if you want.
